An order of service helps guests follow the day and helps speakers know when they are needed. This flexible example is a planning aid for families in South Africa. Adapt it with your funeral director, celebrant or religious leader to respect your family's faith, culture and wishes.
Individual memorial activation from R199 once-off. Features vary by package.
Keep the running order and practical details together
The example below is a starting point, not a prescribed ceremony. Confirm the final order with the people leading each part of the day.
Before the main service
If the day begins with a gathering at home or another venue, give that gathering its own programme part. Include the confirmed arrival time, welcome, any family observance and departure arrangements. Add the location separately and check travel time with your funeral director. Do not assume every family needs a home gathering or the same sequence of events.
Example main service running order
A possible order is: welcome by the programme director; opening prayer or reflection; reading or music; obituary; family tributes; address or words of remembrance; acknowledgements; and closing reflection. Name the person responsible for each item and confirm that they agree to participate. Replace or remove items to match the ceremony, and leave realistic time for music and contributions.
Burial, committal and closing arrangements
If a cemetery or another venue follows, create a separate programme part with its own location and confirmed time. Include only arrangements that have been agreed with the funeral director or venue. Where appropriate, add directions and a family-approved contact. Check the programme, venue information and shared messages together so guests receive consistent details.
Prepare, personalise and share
Step 1
Agree on the ceremony
Ask the family and service leader which parts belong in the day. Confirm venue bookings and who will lead the programme.
Step 2
Confirm people and times
Check each speaker's name, role and availability. Gather readings and music details before entering the running order.
Step 3
Build and review the programme
Use programme parts, items and sub-items in Peacee. Preview on a phone and confirm every venue and time before publishing.

Is this order of service suitable for every funeral?
No single order suits every family. Use it as a planning example and adapt it with the people leading the ceremony. Cultural, religious and personal arrangements may differ.
Can the programme include home, church and cemetery sections?
Yes. Peacee supports programme parts with items and sub-items, alongside location information. Use only the sections relevant to your family's arrangements.
Should I include exact times for every speaker?
Include the detail that is helpful and confirmed. The programme director may prefer a running order for individual items and confirmed times for the main service parts. Agree the approach before sharing.
Can I see an example before creating a page?
Yes. The sample memorial includes a digital programme. It is an example presentation rather than an instruction for how your own ceremony must run.
